HOXIE — There was a lot of back and forth Tuesday night as the Hoxie City Council met for their monthly meeting, with a council member asking Mayor Dennis Coggins about the sale of city equipment. During the meeting, council member Darrell Pickney said he had been approached by a resident with questions about the sale of the equipment, belonging to the street department.

JONESBORO — It was a relatively short meeting Monday evening as a key Craighead County committee approved plans to table discussion over standardizing rates for the Lake City Fire Protection District. The county’s Public Service Committee voted 4-0 to table discussion over the issue indefinitely due to supporters of the plan not appearing at the meeting. Justices heard from supporters on April 15 about the need for something to be done.

A plan to execute a credit card application between the city of Paragould and a bank was approved Monday evening, as well as a pair of condemnation requests on properties, according to officials. The Paragould City Council gave the go-ahead for executing the plan with Simmons Bank, City Clerk Shelia Ragsdale said. The city now uses a traditional credit card system for purchases but plans to go to a purchasing credit card system.

Students with an area school are highlighting murals in Downtown Paragould in order to preserve history. The students are working on a project to create an interactive map that visitors can use to learn more. School officials said the three sixth grade students – Kaleb Newman, Hayden Robinson and Kilend Virgies – are working on the project and are EAST students at Nettleton STEAM Intermediate. The work began May 8.

PARAGOULD — It is expected to be very busy new few weeks as students with an area school work to develop a map, highlighting murals in Downtown Paragould in order to preserve history. The students from Nettleton STEAM Intermediate are working on a project to create an interactive map that visitors can use to learn more.
