Despite a slight drop in numbers, Toyota has held on to its position as the world’s best-selling automaker for a fifth straight year. The Japanese automaker sold 10.8 million vehicles in 2024 to finish ahead of German rival Volkswagen yet again. the Japanese automaker’s group unit numbers, which represents the combined sales for its Toyota, Lexus, Daihatsu and Hino brands, is a 3.7% decrease from the record 11.2 million units it managed in 2023.

Rail operator Keretapi Tanah Melayu (KTM) says it is enhancing security measures in high-risk areas by deploying more auxiliary police personnel to prevent future track trespassing. This comes after a fatal trespassing incident earlier this week, in which a man was killed and four others sustained minor injuries after they were struck by a KTM Komuter train at KM 34.734, between Teluk Pulai and Klang.

Happy Chinese New Year, folks! Being a Wednesday, it’s time for the usual round of the weekly fuel price update, with the ministry of finance having announced the retail price for fuels for the coming week of January 30 to February 5, 2025. After a month and a half of weekly increases, the price of RON 97 petrol finally stabilises, with the premium fuel remaining at the RM3.43 per litre it was priced at last week.

Automakers are pushing back against the application of the tariffs imposed by the European Union on Chinese-built electric vehicles, which came into effect in late October year. Not surprisingly, the first action came from Chinese companies, with BYD, Geely and SAIC challenging the EU’s import tariffs at the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) last week. Two other non-Chinese carmakers followed suit, with Tesla and BMW also challenging the levies by taking things to court, AFP reports.
