A Columbia man pleaded guilty Friday in the 2023 death of a woman who was pregnant at the time of the homicide. The Boone County Prosecutor's Office confirmed that Sevance Brewer, 33, pleaded guilty to two counts of second-degree murder for the death of the woman, whose name hasn't been released by law enforcement, and her unborn child. Brewer was sentenced to life in prison for each count. Deputies arrested Brewer in August 2023 after the shooting on Clearview Road.

There’s no two ways about it. It was a tough, tough loss for the Bobcats. Last year during semifinal play the Tigers dominated the football field beating the Bobcats 47 – 16. This year, however, the two teams were more evenly matched. It was a hard fought game with the Tigers getting on the scoreboard first with a touchdown early in the first quarter. The Bobcat defense had stopped them cold forcing them to punt. No. 23, Tanner McGaugh returned the punt to the 36-yard line before being tackled.

More than 260 people registered for the Pike County Health Department’s 7th Annual Turkey Trot that took place Thanksgiving morning. According the PCHD, this is the largest number of people who had registered for this event in its seven years. People began arriving early to get ready for the run/walk/trot. There were a few changes for this year’s Turkey Trot. According to Rhonda Stumbaugh, they changed the route of the 5K and put out directional signs instead of using a lead car for the runners.

Norton’s Brew serves loaded teasMore than a few people were probably upset when Full Throttle Nutrition closed. But it didn’t take long for that space to be filled. Jessica Norton opened Norton’s Brew in the same space Nov. 9, and she said business has been going well for her. Originally, she said, she wanted to open a trailer to serve her loaded teas, but things got put on hold when the purchase of a house was in the works.
