A federal judge in Kansas City sentenced a former Columbia resident, who at one point faked his own death, to ten years in prison without parole after he pleaded guilty to child pornography charges. According to a news release from the Western District of Missouri, Diego Antonio Rafael Camargo-Wasserman, 32, pleaded guilty in August 2024 to one count of possession of child pornography and one county of receipt of child pornography.

The Boone County Prosecutor's Office filed charges Monday against a man arrested in connection with gunfire in downtown Columbia. Police arrested Steven Harris, 45, after he allegedly fired a gun at a vehicle shortly before 2 a.m. Sunday. Harris has been charged with unlawful use of a weapon, unlawful possession of a firearm, armed criminal action and stealing.

A Montgomery County sheriff's deputy shot and killed a dog during a welfare check on Thursday, according to a post from the sheriff's office. According to the post, a resident called the sheriff's office to express concern about a dog "barking and displaying unusual behavior." The resident drove down the driveway of the property, following the dog, until they saw a vehicle in the garage, its lights on and engine running.

A death investigation closed one lane of westbound U.S. 54 Friday in Callaway County, according to the Holts Summit Police Department. In a Facebook post, the department said the investigation is happening between the Simon Boulevard and Center Street overpasses. The driving lane of U.S. 54 is closed while the investigation is underway. No details have been released about the death or person or persons involved. This is a developing story. Updates will be added as new information comes in.
