Bobcat football season comes to a disappointing end in Lamar

There’s no two ways about it. It was a tough, tough loss for the Bobcats. Last year during semifinal play the Tigers dominated the football field beating the Bobcats 47 – 16. This year, however, the two teams were more evenly matched. It was a hard fought game with the Tigers getting on the scoreboard first with a touchdown early in the first quarter. The Bobcat defense had stopped them cold forcing them to punt. No. 23, Tanner McGaugh returned the punt to the 36-yard line before being tackled.
7th Annual Turkey Trot the largest ever

More than 260 people registered for the Pike County Health Department’s 7th Annual Turkey Trot that took place Thanksgiving morning. According the PCHD, this is the largest number of people who had registered for this event in its seven years. People began arriving early to get ready for the run/walk/trot. There were a few changes for this year’s Turkey Trot. According to Rhonda Stumbaugh, they changed the route of the 5K and put out directional signs instead of using a lead car for the runners.

Norton’s Brew serves loaded teasMore than a few people were probably upset when Full Throttle Nutrition closed. But it didn’t take long for that space to be filled. Jessica Norton opened Norton’s Brew in the same space Nov. 9, and she said business has been going well for her. Originally, she said, she wanted to open a trailer to serve her loaded teas, but things got put on hold when the purchase of a house was in the works.
Bowling Green has the final say during quarterfinal game against Valle Catholic

This, the second meeting of these two teams had a much different outcome than the first meeting. During the regular season, the Valle Catholic Warriors played well that first game handing the Bobcats their only loss during the season. There was a lot riding on this game, and the Bobcats were up to the task. This time, the defense put a lot of pressure on the Warrior quarterback and backs pass coverage prevented them from getting the long yardage.
Christmas in the Green continues to make a positive mark in Bowling Green

Conceived as a way to draw more people to Bowling Green to showcase the myriad of locally-owned and run businesses, Kay Reading and Evelyn Graham came up with the idea of getting the owners to band together for a retail event just ahead of the Christmas season. That brought about Christmas in the Green. Since those early days, the event has continued to grow.
Bobcats defeat Bearcats to win the Division title

It was a game for the ages when the Bobcats went head to head with the No. 1 seed in the division—the Hermann Bearcats. The two teams battled back and forth through the first quarter taking each other’s measure and ending scoreless. Hermann won the toss and elected to defer to the second half. That decision would come back to haunt them. Bowling Green started moving the ball right away.
PCHD highlights November as Hospice Care Month

During the November Bowling Green Chamber of Commerce meeting last Wednesday, Tracy Brookshier and Dannielle McCartney came and presented information about the Pike County Health Department’s hospice care arm. A lot of people don’t like to talk about what happens at the end of a loved one’s life, but it’s necessary to have a plan and know where to turn if you need help, said McCartney, who is with the Home Health and Hospice staff as a full time social worker.
Legion Fabrication hosts Rotary group

Legion Fabrication opened its doors two years ago along Bus. Hwy. 54 at the north end of Bowling Green. It is a separate business, but is owned by the same family that owns Sparks Maintenance, said Andrew Corrigan. He showed the facility to a large group from the Bowling Green Rotary Club Tuesday last week. He noted that the two businesses share the same office space, but maintain separate financial operations.
Louisiana Elks hold annual Hoop Shoot

More than a dozen children came to compete in the Louisiana Elks Hoop Shoot held at the Clopton Middle School gymnasium. Louisiana Mayor and Elks President Tim Carter said the Hoop Shoot is a national competition of just free throws for boys and girls. The first place winners from this competition would go on to compete in division, and if they won, would continue on to state competition and then to nationals. The children were allowed to practice up until competition time.
DAR honors veterans during ceremony dedicating Sexton’s Building at Riverview Cemetery

The Pike County chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution honored area veterans on Veterans Day with a ceremony in Louisiana’s Riverview Cemetery. This ceremony coincides with the DAR American 250—the national program created to bring attention to the 250th Celebration of America in 2026, said Cindy Blaylock, vice regent for the Louisiana DAR. DAR had the sexton’s building in the cemetery restored.
