    Energy Alberta has released an initial project description for the Peace River Nuclear Power Project, a proposed nuclear plant to be located in the Peace River area of Northern Alberta. The Peace River plant would include two to four 1,000MW-class CANDU MONARK reactors and would be licensed to produce up to 4,800 MW of electricity. The Impact Assessment Agency of Canada (IAAC) and the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) will evaluate the project through an impact assessment.

    The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is exempting 47 companies from regulations to curb mercury and air toxics from their coal-fired plants, according to a list released by the agency this week. The Trump administration previously allowed coal plants to apply for exemptions from the Mercury and Air Toxics (MATS) Standards, which were strengthened by the Biden administration in 2024.

    Duke Energy announced this week it applied with the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) to renew the license of the Robinson Nuclear Plant for another 20 years. Located near Hartsville, South Carolina, the Robinson plant consists of one Westinghouse pressurized water reactor. The plant has a capacity of 759 MW. Robinson began commercial operations in 1971. In 2004, its license was renewed for an additional 20 years of operation, until 2030.
