A perhaps under-discussed element of line array design and deployment is the center of gravity (COG) of the array in relationship to the flybar. Most prediction software platforms will indicate the COG to the user. If you’re flying the array with a single pick point, the shackle must be directly above the COG in order for the array to have the intended vertical inclination.

Recently I was talking with a colleague backstage while waiting for doors to open at a show, and we got on the subject of our favorite TV shows of all time. Last year, Shure introduced the Nexadyne series of microphones, one of the first major shifts in a while for the company, which is currently celebrating its 100th anniversary. As someone who worked for a competing mic manufacturer for 15 years, I was very intrigued, and also initially a bit skeptical. After all, the Beta series seemed largely a re-packaging original mic designs (admittedly with different magnets). Was this really a new direction? Or was it just more of the same?
