Radio Nacional De Columbia

Radio Nacional de Colombia, known as public radio, has its beginnings in 1940, specifically on February 1, when it was established by President Eduardo Santos as Radiodifusora Nacional de Colombia. This marked the start of a significant cultural journey that has left a lasting impact on the nation. In 1951, under President Roberto Urdaneta, the radio station transitioned from the Ministry of Education, which it had been a part of since its inception, to the Odipe (State Press and Information Office). During Gustavo Rojas Pinilla's presidency, the station underwent major improvements, including the acquisition of new technology, the renovation of its facilities, and the recruitment of skilled staff to enhance its operations. Notable figures who have shaped the station's history include Otto de Greiff, León De Greiff, Rafael Amaya, Germán Arciniegas, Guillermo Abadía Morales, Andrés Pardo Tovar, and Manuel Zapata Olivella. In recent years, the former Radiodifusora Nacional, now Radio Nacional de Colombia, has been a key player in various significant musical and cultural events across the country, such as the Vallenato Festival in Valledupar, the Pacific Music Festival Petronio Álvarez, the Gaitas Festival in Ovejas (Sucre), and the Luna Verde Festival in San Andrés, among others. Today, public radio is committed to delivering structured, analytical, and independent content that reaches not only major urban centers but also the most remote areas through 54 frequencies.
