Walter Worrall started his journey in the newspaper industry in 1947, taking on roles such as printer, ad salesman, and publisher. In 1968, he acquired the News-Record of Maplewood and South Orange from Gregory Hewlitt. Prior to this acquisition, Worrall had spent a decade working as a compositor and eight years as the sales and business manager at The Citizen of Morris County. In 1971, he expanded his portfolio by buying the West Orange Chronicle, East Orange Record, and Orange Transcript from Charles Moreau.

The No. 17 seed Ridgers upset No. 16 seed Belleville, 5-2, in the preliminary round on Wednesday, April 30, at Belleville. Glen Ridge scored all five runs in the top of the sixth inning to erase a 1-0 deficit. Junior Jace Loeb went 2-for-4 with a double; freshman Devin Murray went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run; and juniors Alex Bowman and Max Pace each had a single and an RBI.

Senior Connor Sutton had four goals and two assists, and junior Stephen Grober had four goals and one assist to lead the fifth-seeded Ridgers to a 15-5 win over 12th-seeded Cedar Grove in the first round on Saturday, May 3, at Watsessing Park field in Bloomfield.

    MAPLEWOOD/SOUTH ORANGE, NJ — Senior Evie Campbell scored four goals, including her 100th career goal, to lead the sixth-seeded Columbia High School girls lacrosse team to a 20-12 win over No. 11 seed Cedar Grove in the first round of the Essex County Tournament on Saturday, May 3, at Underhill Sports Complex in Maplewood. Campbell, who will continue her career at The College of New Jersey, increased her total to 103 goals.
