SavvyMom.ca

SavvyMom.ca was born during a casual coffee catch-up between two former college roommates, Sarah and Minnow, who were enjoying non-fat lattes. Recognized as the go-to moms among their friends, and motivated by their shared experiences raising five children together, they began to envision a helpful resource for the everyday challenges faced by modern mothers. These resourceful moms were too practical to let their ideas remain just thoughts. The creation of a new business was only a matter of time, and nine months later, SavvyMom.ca emerged as Canada’s leading online platform for moms. In 2014, Maple Media acquired SavvyMom Media along with UrbanMoms.ca. This acquisition brought together SavvyMom Media’s properties with UrbanMoms.ca and Ideon’s parenting site BabyPost.com, resulting in the formation of The SavvyMom Group. Today, it stands as the largest source of online content aimed at Canadian mothers.

It used to worry me. But now I often rewatch the same shows with my youngest. Ted Lasso? Three times. And now with Derry Girls I think we’re on our fifth viewing. Season 2, Episode 5 is absolutely cracker with loads of memorable, hilarious moments. And a tiny subplot is the TV’s wonkiness. Set in the ’90s in Northern Ireland, their television is older with a dial instead of a remote. It needs a good whack to get it going every now and again.

I know we’re not supposed to play favourites, but October is the best! After a sweaty and uncertain September, we should finally get crisp fall weather perfect for pumpkin pie (and pumpkin spice lattes, who are we kidding?) It’s a month of starting to live life to the fullest again by (safely) gathering with family and friends to celebrate the bounty of the season.

Recently my youngest son and I donned our woolly wear–toques included–and spent a blustery morning at an apple orchard, collecting fruit for the coming weeks. Some pieces will be used for snacking, while others will be turned into tarts and folded into blondies (laced with bourbon and pecans, I might add) for our Thanksgiving feast. We’re hosting 24 people on Sunday, and serving turkey with the usual trimmings.

Insomnia is the worst. Why is it that everything seems way scarier and more stressful in the middle of the night? Trying to turn those thoughts off can be impossible when you’re tossing and turning, viciously aware of the dwindling hours between you and the sound of the morning alarm. Do you know what keeps women awake at night? According to an older survey, the number one answer of what keeps women awake at night is financial worries.
