It started in 2002, and, while the name has changed, the concepts haven’t. What was once called “Fit Institute Slowtwitch (F.I.S.T)” has now been renamed the “Slowtwitch Fit Academy,” and last week we got to spend some time at one of the program’s workshops. The F.I.S.T. program was the brainchild of Dan Empfield, the man the sport can thank for the triathlon wetsuit and who was also a huge part of the development of the triathlon bike as we know it today.

Paula Findlay is the defending champion, and finished second there in 2022 when it was the world championship. Sam Long is the two-time defending men’s champion and lost to Sanders in 2021 in a dramatic sprint.

The Tokyo Speed Race was designed to celebrate the launch of Asics’ new Metaspeed Ray, and saw 10 national records fall as athletes from around the world competed at 5 and 10 km races.

Photo: PTOThe Professional Triathletes Organisation (PTO) has added the Gold Coast to its T100 schedule, with the first race taking place from March 21 to 22, 2026. The long-term deal to host the Gold Coast T100 Triathlon is a big win for the PTO since the race will be organized by Events Management Queensland, which is owned by the Queensland Government.
