A Wexford man was among a group travelling on a bus when it crashed in Southern France. 11 Irish tourists were hospitalised after the crash on a remote mountain road. The incident, which saw the bus struck by a car driving on the wrong side of the road, took place at Mont Louis on the border between Spain and France. The 48 Irish passengers had been staying in Roses in the north of Spain and were returning to their accommodation following a day trip when the accident occurred.
Breastfeeding support in Wexford to be highlighted for National Breastfeeding Week

The HSE has published the Breastfeeding Action Plan Progress Report (2016-2023) ahead of National Breastfeeding Week 2024 which runs from the 1st to 7th October. Breastfeeding protects babies against lots of illnesses and is designed to meet their every need. Data from the report shows an 18.6% increase in the number of infants breastfed at three months since 2015, and that 64% of new mothers now initiate breastfeeding after birth.
Orange weather warning issued for Wexford

An Orange Level Severe Weather Alert has been issued for Wexford. The warning issued warns of heavy rainfall. It will be in effect from Tomorrow, Sunday 29th at 1pm until Monday, 30th at 12am. Met Eireann is warning of localised flooding, poor visibility and difficult travelling conditions.
Homeless figures are up in the South East

The number of people who are homeless is continuing to rise. Figures released by the Department of Housing show there was an increase in the number of people needing emergency accommodation in August. It brings the number of people homeless to 14,486. There were 314 adults in emergency accommodation in the South East region last month. 62 families accessed emergency accommodation in the South East in August, these families represent 83 adults and 118 children.
Covid warning at Wexford General Hospital

There has been an increase in cases of Covid-19 at Wexford General Hospital. In a statement from an Ireland East Hospital Group spokesperson this afternoon they have the following advice for visitors:Wexford General Hospital wishes to advise the public that there is an increase in the number of COVID-19 positive patients at the hospital. Whilst the hospital is not closed to visiting, we would request that visiting is kept to a minimum. Visitors may be requested to wear masks in certain areas.

It has been confirmed that the traffic warden at one of the countries largest primary schools will not be replaced. With over 1000 pupils crossing roads in and out of the school daily, St. Aidans in Enniscorthy has been left without a warden due to retirement. At this months Enniscorthy Municipal District Meeting, road safety officer David Codd, said that there will be no new warden appointed.
Wexford volunteers weave 32,000 stars in solidarity against violence inflicted on women and girls

‘Women Peace Weavers’ is an exhibition of 88,000 stars, hand woven by 280 women living in 14 counties, in solidarity against the violence being inflicted on women and girls in war zones and by oppressive regimes around the world. Held at EPIC The Irish Emigration Museum in Dublin recently, ‘Women Peace Weavers’ was organised by the One Million Stars Ireland project for International Day of Peace 2024. Volunteer star weavers living in Wexford contributed 32,000 stars to the exhibition.

The victory for Dunlevy and Kelly marks a double-double at consecutive World Championships, with the duo successful in Sunday’s women’s B individual time trial, as well as in the corresponding races at last year’s World Championships in Glasgow.
Gardaí investigate as footage goes viral of young girl being attacked during hurling match in Wexford Park

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following an attack on a young girl on Sunday evening during a hurling match in Wexford. Footage was taken of the incident that has since gone viral on social media and shows a 12 year old girl being attacked by a group of girls who set about punching and kicking the victim. The young girl had to be taken to Wexford General Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
