The Stuttgart Daily Leader is a daily newspaper that comes out five times a week in Stuttgart, located in southern Arkansas. It has been under the ownership of Gatehouse Media since 1997, when it was purchased from Hollinger. The paper has a long history, having been founded in 1885.

Families in Dermott, McGehee, and Dumas are receiving much-needed support with child nutrition through a program led by Lady Robinson and sponsored by Operation Kids. The program provides free meals to children ages 2 to 18. “After school, we offer supper and snacks. During summer hours, we offer breakfast and lunch. There are no special qualifications, just the age limit,” Robinson said. The program ensures children facing food insecurity receive sustenance throughout the year.

The Showdown in Sugatown took place over the weekend as youth and novice boxers from multiple states gathered in Stuttgart for the event, hosted by Stuttgart Gloves Not Guns Boxing Club and sanctioned by USA Boxing. Saturday’s card featured ten bouts, with competitors ranging from the Pee Wee Male Novice Division to an Elite Male bout. “A lot of work went into this summer’s event,” said Stuttgart Gloves Not Guns volunteer Paul Colvin.

The Brinkley Chamber of Commerce is hosting a 3-on-3 basketball tournament this Saturday, June 21. The tournament tips off at 4 p.m. inside the C.B. Partee Elementary School gymnasium. Kenneth Baskins, president of the Brinkley Chamber of Commerce, said the tournament is for players ages 16 and up. “It will be one class, so there will not be adults and kids,” Baskins said. “We want them to be 16 years or older.

Southside Baptist Church will host Vacation Bible School next week from Monday, June 23, through Thursday, June 26. Activities will be held daily from 9 a.m. to noon at the church at 402 E. 19th St. in Stuttgart. Jeremy Prine, youth and music minister at the church, said this year’s theme is “Magnified—Discovering the Bigness of God in the Smallest of Things.”“It comes from Psalm 34,” Prine said. “We are mainly trying to point them to Jesus, the Gospel, and the good news that they can be saved.

Every Thursday from 6 to 7 p.m., the DeWitt Families Anonymous Group gathers at Christ Connect Church in DeWitt. Group founder Amanda Wise said the meetings are for those with family members and/or loved ones who are battling addiction. “It is for the non-addict — to help them help their loved one who is an addict,” Wise said.
