Lignin Industries, a Swedish green technology company, has raised €3.9 million to boost its commercialisation efforts, by helping the company to expand and capture new market opportunities. The investment round was led by the Carrick family, Lignin Industries’ founders and majority owner, and backed by numerous investors. Lignin Industries has created Renol, a sustainable bio-based plastic made from lignin, the second most abundant organic material on Earth and found in plants and trees.

Researchers from the AMBER Centre at Trinity College Dublin have found that the manufacturing process of many common plastics generates invisible stress within the material, which later leads to the release of tiny plastic particles into our food and the environment. During the creation of water pipes, bottles, and household food prep items, manufacturers rapidly cool the molten plastic to preserve its shape.

Injection molder Igus GmbH has put a new face on collaborative robots with the Iggy Rob, a humanoid robot that can scoot around factory floors, offices or even restaurants to take over some repetitive tasks. The Iggy Rob is Igus' first humanoid robot, and it was created through its own in-house expertise developed to improve its production of complex polymer components such as bearings, cables and other motion plastics.

The British Plastics Federation (BPF), a leading trade group in the UK that represents the entire plastics supply chain, including plastic recyclers, is encouraging businesses to report any fraud involving false claims about recycled materials in plastic products to the Environment Agency. The BPF is worried that some companies might falsely claim that their products have recycled content or overstate how much recycled material is actually in them.
