You’ll find no April Fools’ Day pranks here. But since today’s newsletter falls on the pseudo-holiday, I started thinking about teen drama episodes centered around pranks. Two immediately came to mind. In the “Beverly Hills, 90210” season 9 episode “I’m Married,” Noah cheating at a game of strip poker sparks a prank war between him, Donna, and Steve. The hijinks get more and more ludicrous as the episode goes on. Frankly, the storyline — thankfully limited to just this episode — is a waste of time.

Though I wasn’t able to do reaction tweets last week, I must rant about one aspect of last Monday’s “Drama Queens.”In response to a fan question, Sophia Bush and Bethany Joy Lenz lamented Peyton and Lucas barely being mentioned and incorporated into seasons 7 through 9. I share that complaint fiercely. It’s one of my (many) gripes with the later seasons. But Bush and Lenz also said things like this... “I don’t even remember where they moved.

One of the common character archetypes on the teen dramas is the athlete. In fact, “Beverly Hills, 90210,” “Dawson’s Creek,” “The O.C.,” “One Tree Hill,” “Gossip Girl,” and “90210” all had athletes among their main characters. But each version was a little different and none was a stereotypical “jock.”Let’s suit up and look at which teen drama characters hit the fields and the courts.

Days before the sixth anniversary of Luke Perry’s death, the teen drama world was rocked again by another tragedy. I’d been planning for months to devote today’s issue, which falls on the anniversary of Perry’s passing, to him with a discussion of the new “I Am Luke Perry” documentary that premiered on Saturday. But on Wednesday came the stunning news that Michelle Tratchtenberg — Georgina on “Gossip Girl” — had died. No, she wasn’t a series regular, but she had an outsized impact on the show.
