For the Tidehaven Tigers, Friday’s 7-on-7 tournament was about fine-tuning the details ahead of the state tournament later this month. For everyone - except for Ganado, who also clinched a state tournament berth already - it was the final chance to punch their ticket to College Station. Tidehaven, Sudan and Early all hosted the final Division III state qualifying tournaments Friday at their respective schools, rounding out the state tournament’s 32-team field.

The state’s top high school senior baseball players converged at Dell Diamond Park in Round Rock last weekend for two Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association all-star games. Class 2A-4A players took the field Saturday in a North versus South format, including Tidehaven right-handed pitcher Ritchie Garcia. The 51st all-star game ended in an 8-8 tie after nine innings. The South team jumped to an early lead thanks to a strong start from its offense.

Tidehaven baseball pitcher Ritchie ZGarcia capped his high school career with statewide honors, earning a spot on the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association Class 3A all-state elite team. The Tigers’ ace helped lead them to a runner-up finish in District 25-3A with a 14-11 overall record. Tidehaven lost in a one-game bi-district round series to Stockdale, 9-8. For his career, ZGarcia finished with a 23-6 record overall.

Despite multiple key contributors graduating from last season, Bay City will return to the state 7-on-7 tournament. The Blackcats punched their ticket to College Station by clinching a state qualification berth at the Needville state qualifying tournament on Saturday at Needville High School. Needville’s state qualifying tournament included 16 teams and qualified two for the Division II state 7-on-7 tournament at Veterans Park and Athletic Complex in College Station on June 26-27.
