While the revamped postseason structure did not change seeding after Monday’s result, Van Vleck saw its hopes for back-to-back District 24-3A titles dashed. The Lady Leps were shut out 6-0 by East Bernard at home Monday, snapping a four-game winning streak and clinching the 24-3A championship for the Brahamettes. After the latest realignment dropped Danbury to Class 2A, East Bernard and Van Vleck were the obvious title contenders after splitting the championship a year ago.

The Bay City Blackcats captured their first district title under head coach Jesse Herrera with an 11-0-3 mark in District 22-4A. For the excellent campaign, Bay City swept through the award cycle with four superlative honors. Senior forward Pedro Montes was named the district’s Most Valuable Player. Senior defender Isaiah Stinson was named Defensive MVP. Senior midfielder Evaristo Feilberg was named Newcomer of the Year. Herrera was named Coach of the Year in 22-4A.

Bay City High School seniors Xylan Williams and Jada Andrews dominated the football field at Memorial Stadium for multiple years and have done the same on the track surrounding it. The pair of Blackcat seniors combined two first-place finishes from freshman Kevin Vera to record 91 points, which was second-best on the boys’ side behind Needville at the District 29 & 30 Area Meet at Memorial Stadium on April 9. The top six finishers in each event scored points for their team.

Mary Johnson went five-for-five in advancing to regionals in her events at the District 25 & 26-3A Area Meet at Rice Consolidated High School on Thursday. The top four finishers in each event advanced to the Region IV-3A Meet at Seguin ISD’s Stadium. The top two in each regional event move on to the state competition. The top six finishers in each event earned points for their school. The maximum an individual could score was 10 points, awarded to first-place finishers.

The best track and field athletes from Districts 23 and 24-3A converged at Coldspring-Oakhurst High School on April 9 to see who would advance to the Region III-3A Meet at Huntsville High School on Friday and Saturday. The top four finishers in each event at the District 23 & 24-3A Area Meet advanced to the regional competition. Van Vleck High School produced 10 regional athletes, including eight on the boys’ side. The top six finishers scored points for each team.
