The Matagorda County Museum is featuring two exhibits: one highlighting Black History Month and the other showcasing the talent of the area’s most skilled quilters. Memory Makers Quilt Guild DisplayMemory Makers Quilt Guild opened their quilt display Feb. 5 to the public featuring handmade quilts, unfinished object and quilt blocks. The show highlights many quilts of various sizes with colorful items that include baby blankets and large bed-sized quilts.

BLESSING — A family of four came home Tuesday night to find their house engulfed in flames, just hours after their HVAC unit had been repaired. The 911 call to first responders came in around 6:22 p.m., when the family returned home from dinner to find their home filled with smoke and smoke detectors alerting, said Bay City Fire Marshal Dan Shook. “The homeowner stated there was heavy smoke and fire in the attic area near the HVAC unit, which had been repaired earlier that day,” he said.

A 15-year-old Bay City High School student was taken into custody early Tuesday morning accused of felony terroristic threat. After a photo with threats targeting Bay City Jr. High and High School students was circulated around 7 p.m. Monday night, parents called the Bay City Police Department and Bay City ISD Police with concerns. The threats aimed at Bay City students were alleged to happen on Tuesday during school hours.
