The Valley Journals started distributing the South Valley Journal in 1991. Fast forward 25 years, and now there are thirteen community newspapers catering to fifteen cities across Salt Lake County. While we may not be the biggest direct mail publication in the world, the country, or even in Utah, we proudly serve as the only newspaper for each community and are the largest direct mail publication in those areas. No other magazine or newspaper can provide better results in the communities we cover.

Whether teaching wobbly beginners or mentoring professional roller skaters, the couple have influenced the sport for more than 50 years. Together, they have coached more than 50 national champions and their artistic roller skating teams have won top spots in the Southwest Region and Pan American International competitions.

Wasatch has hosted the regional bee for two years. The system is on a rotation, visiting different schools in different years. Wasatch Jr. High vice principal Renee Dehaan helped coordinate the bee. “I think it’s a great thing for the kids,” she said. ‘It’s amazing how they can memorize things and recite it on stage. I myself competed in some bees when I was a child.”The bee starts off with a written test, in which all spellers are required to correctly spell five rigorous words.

A few years ago, Barbara Ingebrigsten’s adult daughter, Heidi, was hiking near the mouth of Little Cottonwood Canyon when she spotted three chicks abandoned in a plastic container near the trailhead. Heidi brought them to her Sandy home, and after struggling to find anyone willing to raise them, she built a chicken coop. Together with her mother, they began raising the hens. “We didn’t set out to do this, but we’ve loved the fresh eggs which have more Omega-3,” Ingebrigsten said.
HB65 expands firefighters’ access to cancer screenings

An important bill, HB65 Firefighter Cancer Amendments, that will provide medical support and access to cancer screenings and early detection was passed by the legislature March 5. “This is enormous,” said South Davis Metro Fire Chief Greg Stewart. “There is exposure on every fire we go on. This bill makes screenings accessible for all departments with tracking and coverage by workers compensation.
