The Herald has been busy lately; between the paper, Lake the Magazine, and graduation, we have all been jumping. We just put July’s magazine to bed, but we are already working on August’s edition. ROANOKE RAPIDS — On Tuesday, Kaitlyn May and Alayzia Moody were recognized and presented with the Benevolence Award and Recognition Committee scholarship awards during a Roanoke Rapids City Council meeting. Krista Rourk, a BARC committee member, presented the awards alongside Battalion Chief B.J. Harris, who is with the Roanoke Rapids Fire Department. Rourk said the committee is comprised of six city staff members from each department.

A grand jury indicted former Halifax County Sheriff’s Office lieutenant John Bozard last week in connection with a March 2024 shooting incident. On June 9, the Superior Court Division of the General Court of Justice returned a true bill of indictment after a grand jury heard evidence presented by District Attorney Kim Scott of Prosecutorial District 7. A panel of 12 grand jurors found probable cause that Bozard committed a crime.
