The Dalhousie Gazette is the student-operated newspaper at Dalhousie University and holds the title of the oldest campus newspaper in Canada. This independent publication reports on happenings both within the Dalhousie community and throughout Halifax. During the 2015-16 academic year, we tackled a variety of topics, including student food access, political elections in Ottawa, and the evolving landscape of journalism.

Four years after the Halifax Hurricanes folded from the National Basketball League of Canada, the Halifax Hoopers look to revitalize the basketball scene in Nova Scotia. The Hoopers will play their home-opener in front of hungry fans at the Zatzman Sportsplex on April 18, 2025. Halifax will play in The Basketball League, a 37-team league which plays throughout North America in cities who traditionally do not have NBA teams.

On Sept. 28, under the lights of Wickwire Field, Wilfreid Kindo barreled in to score his first goal as a Dalhousie Tiger off a corner kick, against the University of New Brunswick. It took three years to find the back of the net, but it only made it that much sweeter for Kindo. “It was unbelievable,” Kindo said.

With a tight lacrosse game and a packed nest, Jan. 18 felt like just another ordinary daywith the Thunderbirds. On Jan. 11 in Rochester, the Thunderbirds won against the Rochester Knighthawks 19-18; the final goal was a buzzer beater from Clarke Petterson. With a second left on the clock, Petterson shot over four players clogging the house, picking the bottom left corner clean and putting Halifax up by one. A week later, Rochester visited Halifax in the Thunderbirds’ barn.
