HILL AIR FORCE BASE—Though the 1970s saw the end of the Vietnam War, it was still a turbulent time across the globe. The Soviet Union was gaining a foothold, and the Cold War was beginning to be an even larger threat. Much like other bases around the nation, and the world, Hill Air Force Base maintained readiness, and constant vigilance throughout the decade.

FARMINGTON—Housing prices in Davis County along with other areas have skyrocketed over the past few years making it almost impossible for low-to-moderate income families to get a home of their own. With that in mind, the Davis County Commission announced the creation of the new homeownership assistance program to help those families. “Home prices have never been so high,” said Ryan Steinbeigle, Grants AdministratorDavis County Community & Economic Development.

SALT LAKE CITY—Former Congressman Chris Stewart has been appointed as chair of the Utah Aerospace and Defense Association. The organization “promotes and advocates for companies that are developing the next generation of aerospace and defense technology.”Stewart resigned from Congress last month citing his wife’s health. While in office, he served on the U.S. House of Representatives Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence and the Appropriations Committee. “It’s going to be fun,” said Stewart.

LAYTON—When Kristie Nelson got the news in May that she had breast cancer her first thought was what the future would hold for her and her children. Nelson didn’t want to tell them until she had all the information so she was mostly on her own through the process for the first one or two months. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and physicians and patients are encouraging women to take the steps necessary to prevent the disease. “In the beginning it was really hard,” Nelson said.
