Police have deemed the death of a Woodstock woman whose body was found last weekend to be suspicious, and they’re hoping members of the public can shed some light on the case. The RCMP’s major crime unit issued a news release Friday evening about Rachelle Paget, 34, of Woodstock, whose body was discovered the evening of June 15 in the Saint John River in Medford, about 90 kilometres north of Woodstock.

A man from the Upper River Valley area who was supposed to stand trial on a murder charge arising out of a Lincoln shooting incident in 2023 admitted to manslaughter Friday. Furthermore, he was released from custody for a second time. Joshua Kristopher Raines, 49, of Route 565 in Holmesville, appeared in the Court of King’s Bench at the Burton Courthouse on Friday morning for a pre-trial proceeding in a homicide prosecution.

A Minto man accused of killing two people whose bodies were found in a burning vehicle last fall has new defence counsel in the case, a judge approved his previous lawyer’s request to withdraw. Corey Agnew, 35, of Willow Drive in Minto, appeared in Fredericton provincial court by video from the Southeast Regional Correctional Centre in Shediac on Friday for a monitoring proceeding in his case.
