Srinagar, Apr 2: Farhan Bhat, 33, owned 10 kanals of land with six under apple cultivation in Baramulla. Following a new trend of high-density apple plantations, he too converted his remaining four kanals into a high-density apple farm. The results were astounding. Therefore, he converted the entire land into high-density apple orchards. “Since then, I have been completely associated with farming. I earn a good living and have included some new varieties also to further enhance my wealth,” he said.

Srinagar, Mar 29: A US-based Global Forest Watch (GFW) report has revealed a significant increase in the forest cover of Jammu and Kashmir.  GFW revealed that Jammu and Kashmir experienced a net gain of 38,300 hectares (38.3 kha) of tree cover during the decade between 2000 and 2020, marking a 2.4% increase over the period. The cumulative increase in tree cover during this time was 57,500 hectares (57.5 kha), accounting for 3.1% of India’s total tree cover growth, GFW data revealed.

Srinagar, Mar 28: Intensifying its crackdown against drug abuse and trafficking, the law enforcement agencies have arrested 7,985 individuals over the past three years under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.  According to data accessed by The Kashmir Monitor, a total of 7,985 individuals were arrested for drug-related offenses, including drug peddling and abuse in Jammu and Kashmir from 2022 to 2024.

Srinagar, Mar 22: The decision to remove four surgical procedures from the list of treatments covered under Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) is going to overburden the government hospitals.  The government has removed cholecystectomy (gallbladder removal), haemorrhoidectomy (hemorrhoid removal), sphincterotomy (for fissures), and appendectomy (appendix removal from the list of treatments covered in private hospitals under a government healthcare scheme.
