A South Devon woman who once worked as an Arctic Ranger in Lapland has returned home to lead the outdoor activities programme at Bovey Castle. Dani Garland, originally from Chudleigh, has joined the five-star Dartmoor hotel as its new Activities Manager. Her appointment follows several winters spent in northern Finland, where she led snowmobile tours and husky sled rides under the Northern Lights. She has also travelled through Australia and Thailand.

An abandoned tent, discarded tins, and a plastic bottle still full of water were found by hikers at Black Tor on Dartmoor last week, prompting renewed calls for responsible access to the national park. The campers had also left a scorched patch on the ground, believed to be the remnants of a campfire. Two walkers who discovered the site while out hiking took it upon themselves to collect and carry the rubbish back with them.
