A new two-year initiative aimed at reducing food insecurity in Devon has been launched with funding from Devon County Council (DCC). The Community Food Hubs Programme, supported by a £200,000 grant from DCC’s Public Health and Communities department, is being led by the Devon Community Foundation (DCF). The project will support a range of activities including food boxes, affordable food clubs, community larders, and breakfast clubs for schoolchildren.

The accessible toilet now includes a RoomMate audio guidance system, designed to support blind and visually impaired users. This wall-mounted device gives users a spoken description of the toilet layout, activated with a simple wave of the hand. It enables users to navigate the space confidently and independently — without needing assistance or Braille.

A Plymouth animal rescue centre is calling for public support after saving the life of a severely neglected elderly dog that was nearly put to sleep on welfare grounds. Gables Dogs & Cats Home took in a blind Shih Tzu, now named Grumpy Grizelda, after she was seized from her former owner and taken to a vet in shocking condition.
