The New York Review of Books

The New York Review of Books

The New York Review of Books boasts a global audience of over 145,000 readers and is recognized by Esquire as “the leading literary-intellectual magazine in the English language.” This esteemed publication was launched during the New York publishing strike of 1963 by its founders, Robert Silvers and Barbara Epstein, along with a group of their colleagues. They aimed to create a unique magazine where some of the most insightful thinkers of the time could engage in thoughtful discussions about contemporary books and important issues. A key principle from the start was its independence, and the Review has maintained its status as an independent editorial voice since its inception.
