LEBANON, Va. – The finals of the VHSL Region 2D softball tournament will be an All-Mountain 7 District affair. Wise County Central defeated Lebanon 4-1 and Lee High bested Richlands 3-0 in win-or-go-home semifinal matchups at Shelia Adams Field on Tuesday. The Warriors of Wise Central (14-10) used a three-run fourth inning to snap a 1-1 tie and wound up ending Lebanon's 10-game winning streak. Sophie Fleming opened the decisive inning with a single and Macie Gibson was hit by a pitch.

Three Smyth County dispatchers were recognized last week by the Virginia Sheriff’s Association for their work in the aftermath of the fatal gunfight that killed Deputy Hunter Reedy. Kayleigh Jackson, Tommie Wiles and Jonna Tuell were on duty in the dispatch center when the “most dreaded call” came through. “It was very chaotic,” said Sheriff Chip Shuler, who had been on the phone with one of the dispatchers and could hear the radio traffic coming through.

Students, faculty, staff and preceptors at the Appalachian College of Pharmacy (ACP) were recently recognized for their achievements during awards day ceremonies at the college. “The awards we present annually to students recognize their achievements and are very well-deserved,” said ACP Provost and Dean Susan Mayhew. “We are proud of each of them for their dedication to learning and to becoming the best pharmacists they can be as they pursue their Doctor of Pharmacy degrees.
