Neigbours of a proposed residential development in Virgil are not happy about the possibility of living next door to a three-story complex they believe is out of place in an area of single-family homes. Plans for a new hotel and two restaurants in Glendale were laid out at a public meeting Tuesday. One of three public meetings on the committee-of-the-whole planning agenda was a proposal for a 10-storey, 207-suite hotel and 247 parking spaces at 524 York Rd. Councillors received a report for information purposes, with no decision expected on the proposal, which is for the second phase of the project.

Occasionally, the Region takes people through its facilities. The treatment plant at 1699 Lakeshore Rd. was built in 2020 and stands on a property down the road from one the Region ha started decommissioning in 2018.

Steve Gallager, a local journalist under the same umbrella as The Standard publications, moved to Niagara Health communications from his positian as a regional managing editor for The Niagara Falls Review and Sun Media's Niagara-South region. He was diagnosed with ALS in 2019, and when he was no longer able to work, he became a fierce advocate for the Walk to End ALS, participating in it, raising funds and spreading the word about ALS Canada. His death from ALS on May 21 left many in mourning.
