    A heat warning is in effect for the next few days. Environment Canada says this is the first significant heat event of the season with “dangerously hot and humid conditions,” and that it is expected to last until mid-week. To combat extreme heat in the past, several cooling stations have been made available to Fort Erie residents: the Fort Erie Leisureplex, which is located at 3 Municipal Centre Drive and open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, and all three branches of the Fort Erie Public Library.

    Every artist works at their own pace, but not during Saturday’s art battle at the Sanctuary Centre for the Arts in downtown Ridgeway. Hosted by Fort Erie Arts Council (FEAC), about a dozen painters took part in the competition, a time trial with three rounds to determine one winner, decided by guests casting votes. Each artist has 20 minutes to complete a piece of artwork, which is auctioned at the end of the night with proceeds being split between the artists and FEAC.
