    Neigbours of a proposed residential development in Virgil are not happy about the possibility of living next door to a three-story complex they believe is out of place in an area of single-family homes. Patrick Walsh was one of five people who came forward during a public meeting Tuesday night to express his opposition to plans for a 29-unit complex at 1839 Four Mile Creek Rd, south of East and West Line.

    A road in rural Stevensville is in the poorest condition of all roads in Niagara, and it’s the eighth-worst in the province. That’s according to CAA’s 2025 worst roads campaign, an annual survey that asks for votes on which thoroughfares are in rough shape. Rhiannon Fleming, communications consultant with CAA Niagara, said Sider Road has “steadily climbed” the list in recent years.

    Plans for a new hotel and two restaurants in Glendale were laid out at a public meeting Tuesday. One of three public meetings on the committee-of-the-whole planning agenda was a proposal for a 10-storey, 207-suite hotel and 247 parking spaces at 524 York Rd. Councillors received a report for information purposes, with no decision expected on the proposal, which is for the second phase of the project.

    The wastewater treatment plant in Niagara-on-the-Lake, an up-to-date asset of the Niagara Region, was on display Monday as 20 people took a tour of the facility to get an understanding of its importance. Occasionally, the Region takes people through its facilities. The treatment plant at 1699 Lakeshore Rd. was built in 2020 and stands on a property down the road from one the Region ha started decommissioning in 2018.

    Autumn Wartman has another accolade to add to her resume as she graduates from Greater Fort Erie Secondary School (GFESS) later this month and pursues a career as a pastry chef. Recently, she took home a gold medal from the Skills Canada national championship in Regina, Sask. in the job demonstration category. She made three variations of crepes for judges to assess, a savoury one made with ham and cheese, two sweet ones, lemon and sugar, as well as strawberry shortcake.
