Functional strength training works several muscle groups that you might use to complete a daily task, such as shopping or climbing the stairs. The main aim of the activity is to train your body to move well. This is different to traditional strength training where you focus on one set of muscles at a time. In traditional strength training, your goal is to completely tire the muscles you’re working. In functional strength training, you still work hard, but not to the point of exhaustion.

What are the lungs - and how do they work? The lungs are the parts of the body that we use to breathe. They let oxygen into the blood, which is then circulated around your body and provides you with energy. Air from the lungs also helps us to create speech and sound, and force a cough strong enough to keep passages clear of phlegm.

1 Try walking around the house or garden. Walking around just once is enough to start building your energy levels. Go at your own pace and get support from someone if you need it. You could also try a short walk, building up the distance gradually. For example, walk along to a specific door number of a building on your street. Next time, walk a few doors along from where you got to last time. You can progress as your stamina and energy levels increase.

As Parkinson’s progresses, how easily you move may fluctuate. Symptoms like stiffness and freezing can limit certain actions, especially when you’re on your feet. Slowness of movement and stiffness These Parkinson’s symptoms happen when signals in your brain affect your ability to move your body properly. So when you go to move, your body creates a smaller and slower movement than it should.
