PUNXSUTAWNEY — On Tuesday — Patriots Day, a commemoration of “the shot heard ‘round the world” that started the Revolutionary War 250 years ago — opponents of the Donald Trump administration staged protests across the country. That included the Jefferson County Democratic Committee, which brought a group of approximately 30 people to Barclay Square in the afternoon during a sunny break between bouts of rain that struck elsewhere in the area.

PUNXSUTAWNEY — IUP Academy of Culinary Arts alumni Pete Tolman did a presentation this week for the current students on promoting pizza-making as a respected craft and viable career choice. Tolman demonstrated his Detroit-style pizza, which he introduced to the Pittsburgh area in 2016, in the IUP cafeteria at the Punxsy campus. Tolman owns Iron Born Pizza. He has two locations in Pittsburgh. Scott Anthony, Punxsy Pizza owner, assisted in the demonstration.

PUNXSUTAWNEY — It was an exciting night at Punxsutawney Area High School in the James A. Colonna Performance Hall as the induction ceremony for the National Junior Honor Society was held in front a lot of very proud parents, siblings and friends. PAHS Assistant Principal Kyle Gordon gave the opening address. Gordon said it was truly an honor to stand before everyone as they marked a significant milestone for these exceptional young individuals.

The students of the Punxsutawney Christian School were afforded the opportunity to walk the fields of hallowed history at Gettysburg on April 4, thanks to the American Battlefield Trust’s History Field Trip Grant program. The trip provided students with hands-on learning opportunities. The grants are awarded based on a competitive, national application process, and this process demonstrated history, math, and reading teacher Deanna Venturini’s commitment to excellence in the classroom.

PUNXSUTAWNEY — The Punxsutawney Area Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting at the Punxsutawney Area School District administration building recently to unveil the new fingerprinting service they are introducing to the public. Dr. Curt Vasas, assistant to the superintendent, said that as of March 27, it is now offering IdentoGO fingerprinting services to both employees and the community.
