PUNXSUTAWNEY — Candidates for Punxsutawney school board and borough council met at a Punxsutawney Area Chamber of Commerce event at the country club Tuesday to greet voters and answer their questions. The candidates each fielded the same questions and had a set amount of time to answer them. Punxsutawney School Board:The candidates are Chad Horner and Katie Laska, who currently have seats on school board, and newcomers Alan Nichol and Lisa Gourley.

BROOKVILLE — Members of the Brookville school board voted 7-0 on Monday to issue RFPs for architectural and engineering services for construction and renovations at Hickory Grove Elementary, with an eye on eventually consolidating Pinecreek Elementary into the school located on the district’s main campus. During last week’s work session, Superintendent Dr. Erich May expressed his support for the move.

PUNXSUTAWNEY — On Tuesday — Patriots Day, a commemoration of “the shot heard ‘round the world” that started the Revolutionary War 250 years ago — opponents of the Donald Trump administration staged protests across the country. That included the Jefferson County Democratic Committee, which brought a group of approximately 30 people to Barclay Square in the afternoon during a sunny break between bouts of rain that struck elsewhere in the area.
