GENERAL MERCHANDISE NEWS Halfords’ chief executive Graham Stapleton has left the company after seven years in the role. He has been succeeded by Henry Birch, the former chief executive of the Very Group, who has also previously headed up Rank Group and William Hill online. Stapleton has been credited with steering the company’s successful change from a cycling and motoring retailer to an omnichannel retail and services business.

GENERAL MERCHANDISE NEWS Jollyes has announced that it has completed the removal of small animals from its 100+ stores and is also accelerating the roll out of raw frozen food ranges. The pet retailer has been implementing a phased removal of all live rabbits, guinea pigs and birds over the last 12 months to give breeders ample notice of the change. Jollyes’ decision has been welcomed by animal wellbeing advocacy group Carrot Cottage Rabbit Rescue.

Goodman has been working for the last 12 years with Tesco where most recently he has been serving as people director for the UK and Republic of Ireland. Whilst there, his responsibilities have covered all people related matters, including labour relations, recruitment, learning, early careers and health and wellbeing.

GENERAL MERCHANDISE NEWS B&M is expecting to report full year adjusted EBITDA at “above the midpoint” of its £605 million to £625 million guidance range following a positive performance in France and careful cost management. In the 52 weeks to 29 March, group revenue increased by 3.7% to £5.6 billion, or by 4% at constant rates, after growth was boosted by B&M’s new store performance and 2.6% like-for-like sales growth in France.
