GENERAL MERCHANDISE NEWS Halfords has posted better than expected underlying pre-tax profit in the year to 28 March, with a rise of 6.4% to £38.4 million. This compares to its previously guided range of £32 million to £37 million. Group like-for-like sales were also up in the period, increasing by 2.5%, after autocentre and retail sales grew 3.7% and 2.1% respectively.

GENERAL MERCHANDISE NEWS Mothercare has signed a new license agreement with Turkish retailer Ebebek. The deal will give Ebebek the exclusive right to use the Mothercare brand in Turkey on products either designed and sourced by Ebebek or Mothercare for a period of ten years. In addition, Mothercare will have the right to rebrand selected Ebebek own-brand products under the Mothercare name and sell them in markets outside of Ebebek’s trading territories.

FASHION RETAIL NEWS UK Ralph Lauren Corporation has approved the appointment of Angela Ahrendts as new lead independent director. Having served on the Ralph Lauren board since 2018, she is currently the finance committee chair and a member of the nominating, governance, and sustainability committee. The appointment will be effective on 31 July following the company’s annual meeting of shareholders.
