    M&S boss Stuart Machin took home more than £7m in pay last year, according to the company’s most recent annual report. The chief executive was paid £7.1m for the 52 weeks to 29 March, up from £5.1m the year before. This came from a fixed pay of £843,000 and £1.63m in bonus payments. Machin received £4.6m in performance related pay, which is subject to holding periods and is dependent on future share price growth.

    Aldi UK boss Giles Hurley has dismissed what he described as a “phoney” price war launched by rival Asda.     Lidl has been forced to pay a six-figure sum to thousands of its employees whose salaries fell below the national minimum wage. The supermarket chain joins Halfords, The Range owner CDS Superstores and over 500 other companies to be called out by the Department for Business and Trade (DBT) for short-changing staff between 2015 and 2022. The discounter was found to have had underpaid 3,423 of its workers by a total of £286,437.18, which has since been repaid.
