    DEARBORN - Saline blanked Grosse Pointe South, 8-0, in the Regional Semifinal at Dearborn High School Tuesday. The Hornets, 19-0-2, advance to the regional final against Salem (14-7-1) at 7 p.m.Salem beat Monroe, 6-1, to advance. The winner of the Saline-Salem game will advance to the semifinal against Macomb Dakota or Troy Athens at Birmingham Seaholm at 6 p.m. June 11. The championship game is at 4 p.m., June 14 at MSU's DeMartin Soccer Stadium in East Lansing.

    First, the Hornets avenged last season's upset in the district tournament, coming from behind to defeat Pioneer, 7-5. Then the Hornets paid back Dexter for taking the season series and  beat them 5-0 at home. Saline (26-11) won the district tournament and has advanced to the regional tournament. Saline plays Hartland (23-15) at noon, Wednesday, at Howell High School. The winner moves on to the regional final and, potentially, the quarterfinal at Novi on Saturday.

    Saline swept its way to a district softball championship much the way it won the SEC Red: In unquestionable and dominant style. Saline needed just two innings of hitting to beat Skyline, 15-0, and then the Hornets defeated Pioneer, 10-0, in five innings. Saline has advanced to this weekend's MHSAA regional tournament at Lincoln where they will  open against Dexter. The winner will play Bedford or Kalamazoo Central (24-7) in the regional championship.

    Saline freshman Eddie Robbins eagled his last hole and shot 74 to take fifth and make the All-Region team last week. The top three individuals not on a qualifying team make the state tournament, and Robbins' score was second. As a team, Saline finished with a score of 319, two behind South Lyon East for the third and final spot at the Washtenaw Golf Club. Haidren Stewart shot 79, Jack McFarlane shot 82, Harper Hummel shot 84 and Ben Holloway shot 86.

    ANN ARBOR -- For the first time in program history, the Saline girls' lacrosse team is a regional champion. Saline defeated Farmington Hills Mercy, 13-11, in great contest at Father Gabriel Richard. "It's amazing for them. It's their first (regional championship) in history.
