    Paul Raymond Ping, 89, of O’Fallon, Ill., passed away April 9, 2025 at his home. Paul was born February 4, 1936 in St. Louis, Mo., to Ivan H. and Hattie, nee Elson, Ping. He grew up on a farm and graduated from the O’Fallon Township High School Class of 1954. He was proud to be part of the Panthers’ Hall of Fame championship basketball team. Paul served in the US Army Reserves from ‘57-‘63.

    by Mark Jurgena Collinsville traveled again last weekend to the Coach Crafton Athletic Center in Elsah on the campus of Principia College for two different meets. Kahok Devin Habermehl won the shot put at both competitions. At the Tiger Indoor meet hosted by Edwardsville on March 14, Habermehl outdistanced the field with a toss of 16.98 meters or 55’ 8 ½”. Gavin Stukenberg of Edwardsville was second with a heave of 15.45 meters or 50’ 8 ¼”.

    by Mark Jurgena The Collinsville girls track & field team had their second meet of the indoor season on March 15 at the Coach Crafton Athletic Center on the camps of Principia College in Elsah. Kwanza Henderson was the only first place winner of the day for the Kahoks. She won the 400 meters with a time of 1:02.05 to beat second place finisher Sophie Bowers of Vandalia who finished the race in 1:04.57. Kahok Darianna Morris was eighth at 1:08.11. She also tied for fourth place in the 60 meters.

    by Mark Jurgena Illinois wrapped up its prep athletics competitions over the weekend in Urbana-Champaign on the campus of the University of Illinois. The State Farm Center served as the venue host for all four classes of boys basketball. Class 4A Benet Academy beat Warren 55-54 while Evanston beat Richton Park (Rich Township) 53-50 for third place. The semifinals saw the only two ranked teams left square off. Number eight Benet beat number nine Evanston 56-47 while Gurnee (Warren) beat Rich Twp.
