After a health assessment, the person would be offered everything from addiction treatment services to a bus ticket back to their hometown. However, the intention of the open-air site, located on Sixth and Jesse streets, seems to have changed, and the Coalition on Homelessness has attempted a coup. The center is part of the mayor’s push toward recovery.

    Muni riders expressed a whole lot of love for the city’s bus and train operators last month, as the number of commendations submitted to the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency increased notably on Transit Driver Appreciation Day. SFMTA spokesman Michael Roccaforte said that the agency received 83 commendations on Transit Driver Appreciation Day, March 18. He noted that typically the agency receives that same number of commendations each month.

    More city blocks could soon be designated as zones for outdoor boozing during special events under new legislation proposed by San Francisco Mayor Lurie. The zones, called “entertainment zones,” allow patrons to take their alcoholic beverages outdoors during special events in closed-off streets. More of these zones could be coming to the South of Market, the Mission, near Union Square, and even in one of the city’s tourist attractions, Pier 39.
