Global wood-based panel manufacturing giant Kronospan will now produce sawn timber products for the first time following the acquisition of Ziegler Group’s Sebeș sawmill. Kronospan announced on March 3 that it had agreed to acquire the ZG Timber’s Sebeș plant in a move which ensures the continuity of operations at the facility, safeguarding 500 local jobs following the insolvency of Ziegler Holding GmbH at the end of 2024.

Timber sector organisations have welcomed the Government’s new commitment to the Timber in Construction Roadmap following an important summit in central London. New, ambitious plans to increase the use of timber in construction to boost the domestic timber industry, economic growth, rural jobs and housebuilding targets, were announced by UK Environment Minister Mary Creagh at the Timber in Construction (TiC) Summit in London on February 27.

The Crowne Plaza in Liverpool was the setting for a Northwest Timber Trade Association (NWTTA) annual dinner on February 26, that experienced a revival with more than 250 attendees, many raving about a fulfilling evening of entertainment and fine food.
