Linden — There were two common themes at Wednesday’s ChoiceOne Bank Athlete of the Week Banquet, honoring the top male and female senior athlete at Fenton, Linden, Lake Fenton, Holly and Hartland high schools. A few words cover those themes well. Work ethic and hard work pretty much complete the task. It takes hard work and dedication to become the top athlete at any level, and this year’s honorees exemplified that.

There wasn’t much difference between the Fenton varsity baseball team and Davison on Wednesday. The two teams played into extra innings of their Division 1 regional semifinal game at Oxford High School. So what decided the contest? It was a sacrifice bunt. Ask Molly Katic what she is and the Fenton junior will say one thing — she’s an athlete. Last weekend was a perfect example of her athleticism. Katic competed in three adaptive races at the Division 1 state meet, earning three state championships on Saturday. And that wasn’t all she did during the weekend. On Friday, she competed at the Special Olympic State Games at Central Michigan University, winning the gold in the 25 freestyle and the bronze in the 50 backstroke.
