    FENTON — Fenton’s historic bank is now officially ChoiceOne Bank. On Monday, March 17, ChoiceOne Financial Services, Inc, the parent company of ChoiceOne Bank, held a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the former State Bank location to celebrate the merger and rebranding of the bank. ChoiceOne CEO Kelly Potes thanked everyone for attending the rededication ceremony. He spoke about the history of ChoiceOne and how it started as Sparta State Bank in Sparta, Mich., which is his hometown.

    FLINT — On Thursday, Feb. 6, Genesee County Sheriff Chris Swanson, a Democrat, announced he’s running to be the next governor of Michigan. He launched his campaign on Thursday at Mott Community College in Flint. Swanson, a Fenton Township resident, was first elected as Genesee County sheriff in 2020 and won reelection in 2024. He has worked in law enforcement for almost three decades. Gov. Gretchen Whitmer will end her second term in 2026 and will be ineligible to run again.

    Wishing Well Theatre will put on “Love Through the Ages” at The Laundry Room in Fenton on Saturday, Feb. 15 from 7 to 9 p.m. “Love Through the Ages is a celebration of love bridging Shakespeare with classic and modern music,” said Ricky Philippi, artistic director/founder of Wishing Well Theatre. The event is their beginning-of-the-year fundraiser to kick off their 2025 season.
