A decision by pro cycling’s world governing body to mandate wider handlebars in the professional peloton is drawing criticism from women riders and teams. They say the new rule ignores their physical differences and raises safety concerns. Starting in 2026, all riders will be required to use handlebars at least 40 cm wide. And it doesn’t matter which gender the cyclist is.

Woody’s Triathlon is back this Saturday, June 21, with races kicking off at 7 a.m. in Red Deer. Adults will begin the day with a 750-metre swim—30 lengths in the Michener Aquatic Centre’s 25-metre pool—followed by a 20-kilometre bike ride and a five-kilometre run. Long-distance triathlon is set to return to Québec in 2026, as Challenge Québec joins forces with the renowned DATEV Challenge Roth in Germany to launch a full-distance race through the streets of Québec City. Announced Monday, the new 226 km event — set for June 28, 2026 — will include a 3.8 km swim in the Bassin Louise, a 180 km bike ride on the Dufferin-Montmorency Highway, and a 42.2 km run along the Saint-Charles River and through the Old Port, finishing in the heart of downtown.
