FLUSHING – Four days after William E. “Bill” Putman II told a judge he’s “never been in trouble,” the judge scheduled a hearing when he could find Putman in contempt of court. Genesee County District Judge David J. Goggins on Monday set a hearing for 8:30 a.m. on June 9 regarding the contempt-of-court crime possibly committed by Putman, 64, of the Caro area. If found in contempt by Goggins, the judge could sentence Putman to a maximum sentence of 93 days in jail and a $7,500 fine.

INDIANFIELDS TWP. — A 3.5-mile section of Chambers Road – north of M-46 and south of M-81 – was closed to traffic as of today. Brent Dankert, county highway engineer for the Tuscola County Road Commission, told The Advertiser that his agency will oversee a $617,000 project to improve the safety of a 1.2-mile stretch of Chambers Roads from M-81 to Washburn Road.

WISNER TWP. — No one lived in the Wisner Township mobile home that burned to the ground Tuesday, April 29 – one of the year’s windiest days. Unionville Fire Chief Shawn Kish said the vacant home’s owner, Loy Linton Jr. of the town of Kawkawlin in Bay County, was aware the structure was lost to fire when Kish spoke with him over the weekend. “It was a second residence; I don’t know if it was his hunting property, or not,” Kish said. “He wasn’t, like, upset.

ARBELA TWP. — Police allege an Arbela Township woman embezzled $100,000 or more from a vulnerable adult during a period of more than four years. Karyn K. Killian, 59, is charged with embezzlement of $100,000 or more from the victim, and also is accused of stealing his identity, and using a computer to commit a crime carrying a maximum imprisonment of 20 years to life. The Tuscola County Sheriff’s Office claims the crimes occurred from Jan. 1, 2019 through Feb. 28, 2023, in Arbela Township.

VASSAR — A public hearing has been scheduled for 7 p.m. on Monday, June 2 regarding the city of Vassar’s plan to vacate a portion of North Sherman Street. The city plans to vacate a 200-yard-long segment of North Sherman Street from East Huron Avenue north to North Sheridan Street. No homes are located along North Sherman Street in that locale, an area the city plans to use for the construction of a new public safety building. The public hearing is set to take place at Vassar City Hall, 287 E.
