    VASSAR — The Vassar Veterans Military Support Group remained faithful on Memorial Day, May 26. The group hosted a ceremony at Vassar’s Riverside Cemetery, the 20th annual ceremony at the cemetery hosted by the military support group. U.S. Marine Corps veteran Richard Miller served as guest speaker. Mitzi Hill, mother of the late U.S. Marine Corps Cpl. Christopher E.     CARO — Once again, Norm Daniels stood in the gap for families in need in 2024. Daniels, chairman of the board of directors of the Tuscola Homeless Coalition, said that nonprofit organization helped keep more than 100 people in their homes last year. “There are 41 women, 17 men and about 50 children that we’ve been able to keep in the houses where they were living,” said Daniels, accepting a $2,500 grant in December of 2025 from the Tuscola County Community Foundation.

    Juniata Twp. — Police say they caught a motorist from Florida on Thursday, May 29 after he caused a car crash that morning and fled on foot. Officers from several police agencies teamed up in the hunt for the 29-year-old man, who fled the scene of a two-vehicle crash at Kirk and Waterman roads, about one mile northeast of Vassar.
