Walter Worrall's journey in the newspaper industry started in 1947, where he took on various roles including printer, advertising salesperson, and publisher. In 1968, he acquired the News-Record of Maplewood and South Orange from Gregory Hewlitt. Prior to this, Worrall had a decade of experience as a compositor and spent eight years as the sales and business manager for The Citizen of Morris County. Three years later, in 1971, he expanded his portfolio by buying the West Orange Chronicle, East Orange Record, and Orange Transcript from Charles Moreau.
