SUMMIT, NJ — The Union County Conference schedule maker presented the Jonathan Dayton High School baseball team with a very challenging first three games right off the bat, no pun intended. Among the top teams in the Mountain Division, the Bulldogs opened with contests against three of the upper Watchung Division schools before they were scheduled to play someone in their division.

CRANFORD, NJ — A positive first week of the season, including in the wins and losses columns, was somewhat imperative for a Cranford High School baseball team void of a great deal of seniors and returning varsity experience this season. Cranford opened with Union County Conference-crossover triumphs at Oratory Preparatory School, 8-3, on Tuesday, April 1, and in its home-opener vs. Jonathan Dayton High School, 5-2, on Thursday, April 3.

The Highlanders tied the program record for wins with 28 in a 28-5 season that included just four Watchung Division losses and a 3-2 setback at perennial parochial power Delbarton. Governor Livingston, both for the fourth time, captured the Union County Tournament title and the Group 2 state championship.

UNION COUNTY, NJ — The Jonathan Dayton High School Bulldogs captured their first-ever Union County Tournament championship last year in a Union County softball season full of surprises. Sparked by the outstanding play of returning varsity starters junior Angela Gatto at shortstop and sophomore Lila Carroll at pitcher, the Bulldogs were to open their 2025 campaign at home against Cranford High School on Tuesday, April 1 in a battle of the last two UCT champions.
