UTHealth Houston
The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth Houston) is the largest provider of health care education in Texas. Established in 1972 by the Board of Regents of The University of Texas System, it is situated within the Texas Medical Center. UTHealth Houston comprises several schools, including dentistry, biomedical informatics, medicine, nursing, public health, and a graduate school of biomedical sciences. The institution is recognized by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, allowing it to grant certificates, bachelor's, master's, doctoral, and professional degrees. Additionally, UTHealth Houston offers patient care through three faculty practices found in various clinics across the Houston area: UT Physicians, UT Dentists, and UT Health Services.

In 2002, my grandmother, Faye Sims, now 76, experienced a sharp, debilitating pain in her jaw while at a café in Fairfield, Texas. She ended up in the emergency room, and doctors discovered she had multiple sclerosis (MS). The pain she was experiencing in her face was caused by trigeminal neuralgia, sometimes described as the most excruciating pain known to humanity. The cause of MS is not known. It’s considered an immune-mediated disease in which the body’s immune system attacks its own tissues.
