VeloNews was a prominent cycling magazine based in Boulder, Colorado, that focused on the sport of cycling for 50 years. In early 2021, it was acquired by Outside Inc., which also bought the cycling publication Cycling Tips in July of the same year. Shortly after these acquisitions, CEO Robin Thurston shifted Outside Inc.'s strategy, declaring in April 2022 that "Outside's future is in NFTs." However, the NFT market experienced a downturn within six months. In a letter to employees on November 15, which announced job cuts, Thurston mentioned that while "the fundamentals of our business are sound," the "economic challenges affecting all media and technology companies have increased." On June 1, 2023, VeloNews.com quietly ceased operations, as the website no longer redirected to its original homepage.
