Published 5:16 pm Monday, June 2, 2025 The spring sports season was a pretty good one for Pungo Christian Academy. The school’s baseball, softball and girls’ soccer teams made the state playoffs after successful seasons in the Tarheel Independent Conference. As a result, four of the school’s athletes from those spring teams were named to the All-State team by the NC Independent Schools Athletic Association.

Published 12:13 am Monday, June 2, 2025 Two Washington High School athletes picked up postseason honors from the Eastern Plains Conference. Sophomore Sonti Small was named EPC girls’ soccer player of the year. Senior Micah Whitley was named boys’ tennis player of the year. Whitley returned to playing tennis for the Pam Pack and quickly achieved success. He won the EPC singles title after beating teammate Gabe Niederhauser in the conference final.

One of the top college football players in the country for the 2025 season is from right around here. The accolades continue to come in for Duke graduate and Washington High School alumnus Terry Moore. Although he recently graduated from Duke, Moore still has one season of football left.

That’s about to change, at least at Southside High School. While Northside and Washington are working on adding more passing to their offenses, the Seahawks are working on making it a key part of their game.

Published 5:45 pm Thursday, May 29, 2025 YEATESVILLE, N.C. — Northside High School senior Trinity O’Neal is always a cheerleader. She’s now also a trailblazer. O’Neal is believed to be the first cheerleader from the school to take her talents to the college level. A ceremony was held in her honor last Friday as she declared her intention to cheer for Barton College.
