US Sailing today announced Charlie Enright, an accomplished leader in the sailing industry, as the Association’s new Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Enright, a native of Bristol, Rhode Island, will take the helm of US Sailing, the sport’s National Governing Body (NGB), following an extensive national executive search. “We are extremely proud to welcome Charlie to US Sailing,” said Henry Brauer, President of US Sailing.

By Ted CorningPhotos by Donna Clapp and Mike BarnesOn Saturday, April 5, The Corinthians held their annual Frostbite Regatta at the Mystic Seaport Museum’s Sailing Center in Mystic, CT. This year’s event had a great turnout out despite a forecast of strong winds and rain. But just as is the case so often in New England, the actual weather did not agree with the forecast so races were easily completed with windward-leeward courses on the Mystic River.

The exhibitionMy solo show in Newport Art Museum’s Ilgenfritz Gallery, KELSY PATNAUDE AT SEA (with cole brauer), depicts the 130-day voyage of my close friend Cole Brauer, the first American woman to complete a non-stop, single-handed race around the world. Central to the show is a 100ft painted panorama which reflects the awe and fear of the ocean. I use the panorama to tell a powerful story, transporting the viewer to a world they may never otherwise experience.

My first Marion Bermuda RaceBy Anne KolkerHaving asked many sailors if they would be my crew for a Marion Bermuda Race, I was often told that they were uncomfortable to lose sight of land. My reply has always been that I am much more uncomfortable to be along a shoreline in the fog. Of course, I have lots of electronic equipment to help me know my position and to find other boats or ships that might be in my vicinity.
