by GABRIEL HATHAWAY Earlier this month, the Winona City Council rejected a bid for a project at the Bob Welch Aquatic Center to upgrade various mechanical components, which came in at nearly $300,000 over the estimate, or 50% over. Winona Parks and Recreation Director of Facilities Patrick Menton said the city is seeking new bids and expects the project to begin after the aquatic center closes for the season.

Anthem Skatepark owner Zach Krage said he hopes to build the plaza next summer. “It's still hard to believe just because we've been working on it for over five years,” Krage said about receiving the $550,000 grant.

Board members said Steamboat Days does an important job of bringing the community together, and now in its 78th year, Steamboat Days, for many, has become the Winona celebration.
