A wind project is stalled in New York. Experts worry about impacts across the U.S.

U.S. Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum has ordered a halt to an offshore wind project near the coast of Long Island. Today, Equinor, the Norwegian energy company that owns and operates the project, announced it is complying with the order and suspending all construction. President Trump, a longtime critic of wind energy, issued a moratorium on new development of offshore wind projects, one of his first executive orders upon returning to the White House.

There is a narrow border between destruction and prosperity, between positive and negative feedback, says Péter Érdi. Érdi is a computational neuroscientist at Kalamazoo College. He has written a book called, Feedback: How to Destroy or Save the World. When Kalamazoo College art professor Tom Rice got his hands on the book written by his colleague, he realized the patterns he created in his artwork reflected negative and positive feedback in some manner.

Kermit Frazier's thought-provoking youth play, Smoldering Fires opens Friday, Apr 11 at the Joliffe Theatre in Kalamazoo’s Epic Center in a production by Face Off Theatre. Originally slated for the 2020 season but canceled due to the pandemic, the play is directed by CharlesCurtis, a Kalamazoo native with acting credits in Chicago and Los Angeles theater and film and a background in dance.
Anderson & Roe will join Battle Creek Symphony for season finale

Allie Wist spent more than a decade as a photo director for food media in New York, most recently at Bon Appétit. As an artist, Wist wanted to portray food in an entirely different way. As a Prairie Ronde artist resident in Vicksburg, she plans to design a sensory installation dinner based on insights (and ingredients) related to some of the paper mill's sustainability-related projects, featuring local, foraged ingredients, edible clay sculptures, and “postindustrial” perfumes.

Mich. Supreme Court set to hear embryo custody case

The Michigan Supreme Court will hear arguments Wednesday between a divorced couple fighting over custody and disposition of the last vestige of their marriage and breakup – a frozen embryo. The case is essentially about dividing property, but the circumstances are obviously unique, said attorney Liisa Speaker, chair of the Family Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan.
